Soothe sore nipples

I am 13 and I have my period. I’ve found that my nipples are very tender and sore. When I’m changing and my shirt brushes them, it stings really badly. What’s going on?

It’s normal for your breasts to be sore before and during your period. When it’s just your nipples, though, chances are something has irritated them. Maybe you sleep in scratchy tees or your bra need replacing. Whatever is causing the soreness, it will likely go away after a few days with proper care.

To ditch the stinging, you’ll need to avoid wearing irritating material. Opt for your softest sleep clothes and consider heading to the mall for a new bra or two if your old one isn’t as comfy as it used to be. After you shower, rub a few drops of unscented moisturizer onto your nipples. Body lotion, facial moisturizer, even an ointment like Neosporin should do the trick.

If the irritation continues, you might want to call up your doc to see if there could be a larger, underlying issue. It’s also possible that your skin is reacting badly to the chemicals your mom uses to do the laundry. Ask if she could grab an all-natural detergent and ditch the fabric softener for a week or two.
