How to get a workout in gym class

OK, bench warmers, time to get off your booties and get in the game! If you're super busy (or don't want to clock any more sweat time than you absolutely have to), here's how to get a calorie-axing workout while you're in phys ed. Forget the half-hearted jogging. We're getting serious.

Get competitive

The guys aren't the only ones with team spirit and smooth moves. Show off your mean backhand when you hit the courts, steal a ball in soccer (and shoot--score!) and take a volley like an Olympian, not a wimp. You'll earn major respect--and won't even notice the sweat pouring down your back. Phew.

Do a few more reps

Got a drop-'n'-gimme-20 situation? Drop and shoot for 25. Do a few more pull-ups, sneak in an extra lap, up the weight when you're pumping iron, stick it in plank for longer than everyone else. Yeah, it'll be tough...but only for now.

Pick your position

Stop avoiding the ball and get in there. Opt for the toughie picks, like goalie, or ones where you're really gonna have to run fast to keep up. And if the teams are uneven? That's cool. Get on the smaller one and be the babe that picks up the slack. High five, hunnie!

Move it

When coach says book it to the track, don't trudge; jog out there and warm up those muscles. That way, your practice lap for the mile will be less walk-the-long-sides and more look-at-me-go.
