Workouts

Splash your way to a swimsuit bod

If it’s already time to head out to the pool but your bod isn’t quite as toned as you were hoping, don’t sweat it – there’s still tons of time for you to get in shape while taking in the sun with your chicas. The best part is that in the water, you can defy gravity and do exercises that might not be such a cinch on land. Here are five moves that’ll have you lookin’ fine in no time.

Mermaid Push-Ups

While standing by the side of the pool, put your hands in front of you on the outside rim about shoulder-width apart. Then unbend your elbows and slowly push your bod up out of the water, like you would if you were hopping out without a stepladder. Hold yourself half out of the water, Little Mermaid-style, for a few secs before slowly lowering yourself back into the pool.

Perf Planks

Grab a noodle and hold it out in front of you, hands about shoulder-width apart. Then tilt your bod til you’re at a 45-degree angle, pushing the noodle down as you go. Stay there for a few minutes and hold yourself as straight as possible. Up the time when you start getting the muscles you’ve been workin’ for.

Kickin’ It Dolphin-Style

With one hand, hold onto the side of the pool. Use your other hand to steady yourself by putting it against the wall under water, fingers pointing down. Then let your bod go horizontal and kick like a dolphin, keeping your legs together. Focus on using your abs to start the motion and on making the biggest waves that you can. Keep kicking as fast as possible for about 30 secs.

Slow and Steady Wins the Abs

With your back against the pool wall, spread your arms straight out and grab the wall on either side. Raise your legs to be parallel with the pool floor, like you’re sitting on an invisible throne. Slowly move your legs into your chest, and then back out. Swing your legs to the left, to the right and finally back to center. Repeat the entire sequence 10 to 15 times.

Treading Minus the Mill

In the deep end, spread your arms out along the surface of the water, parallel with the bottom of the pool. Start with them straight out, and then bend them in and back out. Continue that motion as you move your legs like you’re riding a bicycle. You should look like you’re sitting on an invisible stationary bike (with some arm flailing thrown in). Move your arms and legs as fast as you can to stay afloat. Do this for 30 secs, and then rotate your bod 45 degrees to vary the scenery. Continue until you’ve gone full circle.

So chicas, what are your fave fat-burning pool moves?
