Back to nature workout

This Earth Day-inspired circuit will have you greening up your workout and shaping up in a jiffy. You don’t need any special equipment, can do it inside or outside, solo or with your sweeties. Turn on some inspiring tunes and get movin’, you green goddess, you!

Earth: Drop ‘n’ give me 20!

Start crouching on the ground, hands on the floor beneath your shoulders and your feet a hip’s with apart. Walk your feet back until you’re in plank position. Bend your arms and complete a slow push up. When you come back up into plank, walk your feet forward until they are directly in front of your chest. Then…

Air: Frog jump

Leap as high as you can, straight off the ground from your crouching position. Stand tall when you hit the ground and bust out five quick jumping jacks, reaching high into the air on every count. Then…

Fire: Drill

Bolt for the stairs, a lap around your house or the backyard. Sprint as quickly (and safely) as you can, breathing in through your nose and out through your mouth. Keep your knees high. Once you return to your starting spot…

Water: Keep on swimming!

Reach down with your arms toward your toes. Stretch for ten seconds, then slowly bend your knees, place your hands flat on the floor and walk your feet back. Drop down to lay flat on your stomach, lift your head and your feet off the ground and raise your arms so that they are directly in front of you. Now alternating raising your left arm and right leg, then your right arm and left leg, in quick succession for 10 reps. When you’re finished, drop your limbs back to the ground, push yourself up to plank position and start from the beginning.

Continue the circuit for ten minutes at first, lengthening the time by two minutes every session. This makes a great total body-toning addition to your normal cardio routine. Add it in three or four times a week to see results in your arms, tummy and thighs.
