Eat Right

6 acne-fighting foods you should add to your diet now

Many of us have been there: Irritated, acne covered skin that won't give up, no matter how many face masks or cleansers we try. Acne is a fickle beast to beat. But what if we told you eating the right types of foods could help? In fact, some might clear your skin better than your cleanser! Trust us—your skin will thank you for it later.

Fatty acids
Fatty acids help the skin retain water and they also relax stressed or irritated skin. They can be found in salmon, flax seeds and cod. Not only will these foods reduce inflammation, but they will also give your skin a nice soft glow.

Vitamin B6
Unbalanced hormones are one cause of acne. B6 helps keep your hormones in balance. You can find this vitamin in cauliflower, sunflower seeds and avocados.

Fruit
Which fruit? Feel free to pick. Fruit is full of antioxidants and vitamins which all help keep your skin clear and healthy. Go ahead eat all of the fruit in sight!

Coconut water
Coconut water hydrates not only your body but your skin. It contains nutrients, vitamins and electrolytes that help get rid of acne and other blemishes. The water also contains anti-microbial and anti-fungal properties, which help prevent acne from occurring.

Magnesium
Foods that are high in magnesium work as acne fighters. Magnesium helps reduce acne-inducing hormones. Some foods that contain magnesium are artichokes, oatmeal and brown rice. These foods all help keep that acne under control.

Clean foods
Foods filled with salt or foods that are highly processed can easily damage your skin. Eating clean involves eating fresh vegetables instead of canned vegetables. Or eating fresh fruit for breakfast instead of pop tarts and donuts. Although this one might seem a bit tricky, any step towards eating clean is better than no step at all.
