FEATURE FRIDAY: Healthy Holiday Eating

Turkey, stuffing, apple pie? Oh my! Wondering how to survive the holiday food fest and still be healthy? GL’s got some fab tips to enjoy those holiday dinners guilt-free!

EAT BEFORE YOU GO
Sure, it may sound like cheating, but according to recent studies, eating before you go to a big party is better for you. Think about. Your BFF’s idea of a holiday spread probably includes every type of dessert known to man! So if you don’t want to devour the whole plate, be sure to have a salad and some soup before you leave for her party. Then you can enjoy a snowman-shaped frosted sugar cookie w/o worries!

BEWARE OF THE BUFFET
It’s been scientifically proven: the more you see, the more you eat! That’s why the buffet table is your number one enemy this holiday season. With the table full of mashed potatoes, homemade macaroni and cheese, and sweet potato pie, who could resist? But, trust us, going back for seconds and thirds could leave you with a major tummy ache!

How do you break the big bad buffet habit? Set a mission and stick to it. Decide what you absolutely want to eat, get it and walk away. Hanging around in line will only give you more time to get more food that you may not even want.

GO WITH THE GOOD STUFF
There’s no holiday rule saying you have to eat everything in sight. But make sure to keep an eye out for the good stuff, such as the veggie plate and fruit spread. This way you can have your food and eat it, too while fulfilling your nutritional needs.

GET OUT THERE!
Why are you sitting around like you’ve got nothing to do? Get up, walk around and mingle. Get the party going with some fun holiday tunes and dance it out! You’ll eat less and burn more calories. What’s not to love?

Happy Holidays from GL!
