Eat Right

FEATURE FRIDAY: Mall Munch

You and the crew are at the mall, and you’re famished. Is there anything you can feel good about eating? Yep, you’ve just gotta look for it!

CHINESE
SKIP Pork lo mein oinks in at 1,650 calories! That’s like eating more than half a dozen glazed donuts—eek!
HIT UP Veggie spring rolls and steamed dumplings (shrimp or chicken) have less than 350 calories a serving. Tip: Buddha’s Delight is usually packed with yummy veggies. Get it steamed.

MEXICAN
SKIP Sounds cheesy, but nachos with beef and sour cream pack nearly 1,250 calories…without many nutrients. Adios!
HIT UP Tacos! Without sour cream, a chicken or grilled-veggie soft taco is a great option. With less than 200 calories, you’ll have room for dessert (or seconds). Love taco salads? Ditch the fried shell.

PIZZA
SKIP A large slice loaded with meat is over 500 calories. But who eats just one? Cheesy breadsticks are tasty but, um, you’re already eatin’ bread and cheese.
HIT UP It’s all about the veggie pie. At under 200 calories a slice, it’s a fab choice. Go for the thin crust.

SANDWICHES
SKIP Subs. Hoagies. Grinders. Whatever ya call ’em, they’re not the best bet. A meatball sub weighs in at almost 1,000 calories for a 6-incher!
HIT UP Opt for pita pockets stuffed with veggies or turkey on whole-wheat. Add nutrients by piling on peppers, onions, tomatoes and lettuce.
