Shocker: Oatmeal at McDonalds is sooo not healthy

Watch out, Goldilocks! New York Times opinion writer and chef Mark Bittman reported recently that the new Fruit and Maple Oatmeal at McDonald’s isn’t exactly Mom’s recipe for a healthy breakfast. In fact, one bowl of Mickey D’s oatmeal contains more sugar than a Snickers bar!

Homemade oatmeal gives you lots of energy and fills ya up for hours. Well, breakfast at the golden arches is no replacement for Mom’s home cooking. Full-fat cream, loads of brown sugar, sweetened dried fruit and several other surprising (and non-pantry) ingredients are packed into the bowl, which is in fact even more expensive than a double cheeseburger.

McDonald’s may be convenient, but we say skip the sugar and go for a wholesome DIY bowl of the stuff in your own kitchen. It’ll taste just as good (or even better) than the fast food version and will leave you feeling great, not drained from a sugar crash.
