Bite your nails? Here’s how to stop now

You've been biting your nails for, well, ever. But this is the time that you're *so* going to stop, right? Our 5 easy steps will have you quit your chomping in no time. And, bonus, your nails and cuticles will look better than ever.

1. Commit
This is probably the most difficult step, but it's certainly the most crucial. In order to end the vicious cycle of nail biting, you have to be serious about stopping. Sure, we always talk about how nice it would be and/or to have "x, y and z" but we don't care enough to take the steps to do something about it. In this case, commitment is central to breaking the habit. When you feel the urge, it's vital to remind yourself of the reasons why you want to stop.

2. Keep your hands occupied
You may be biting your nails out of boredom; if this is the case, keep your hands busy. When you feel the urge to bite your nails, do something else to distract yourself. Text your friends, draw, paint, knit, clean your room or go on a run. You'll stop biting and be more productive!

3. Paint your nails
Painting your nails is a great way to limit nail biting because when your nails are freshly painted, they're much more presentable...and no one wants to eat paint. When you're proud of your mani, you're less inclined to ruin it by biting the polish off.

4. Identify your triggers
Pay attention to what causes you to bite your nails. Do you bite your nails when you're nervous, anxious, stressed or just zoning out? If so, finding alternative methods that are more positive, such as meditation or yoga, is essential in defeating this annoying habit.

5. Be patient
Remind yourself that breaking a habit takes time. It won't always be easy and you may not succeed the first few times, but it's important to keep trying. Remember: you can achieve anything that you put your mind to!
