Your Bod

These 3 things might be making you smell bad

We’re going to get real for a minute: Puberty stinks. There’s hair in places that you never wanted, you might experience mood swings and your body is going through all sorts of weird changes. But one of the worst parts? That body odor.

As embarrassing as it may be for you, everyone has experienced some kind of body odor at some point of their lives and it's actually a side effect of puberty. That’s great news for you (although it might not seem like it) because that means there's a ton of great advice out there to help you smell sweeter from head to toe.

Bad breath
This is by far the easiest B.O. to control. Because ICYMI, there’s actually a “proper” way to brush your teeth. Make sure you use circular motions to brush your teeth as scrape your tongue to get rid of any germs that can cause bad breath. Do this twice a day and you should be able to smell a real difference.

Vaginal odor
Before we really get into it, some vaginal odor is normal. It’s just a natural and completely normal function of your body, especially during your period. What’s not natural is a very strong odor that can be smelt by others. This could mean that there is an imbalance in the pH of your vagina. To get back on track, you need to cleanse your vagina daily with warm water and a mild soap. But talk to your doc first, of course.

Body odor
During puberty, you might find yourself sweating more than usual, leading to some bad body odor. This can get super uncomfortable, especially when someone comments on it. If you suffer from bad body odor, make sure you’re taking all the basic steps to fight it like daily showers and deodorant all day, every day. (Make sure your deodorant isn't just antiperspirant because that will just keep away the sweat and not the smell.) Also, if you dread the days that you have gym, invest in some towelettes to freshen up before heading back to class. Just try not to spray a whole bunch of body mist. It can have the opposite effect.
