Will u go 2 prom w/ me?

Before you consider your dress or your ride, there’s one thing on the mind of every spring dance goer: Who’s gonna be my date?!

Whether you’re going in a group or you’ve got your eye on a certain someone, the question has gotta be popped sometime. This year, more teens then ever are asking out there prom date over text. Wanna hop on the band wagon? With a li’l bit of help from textPlus, we’ve got five ways to get it right.

Personalize it! That means names and details, so it doesn’t seem like you could be asking a slew of sweeties to go with you.

Don’t hear back within 24 hours? Pick up the phone again, but this time give ‘em a call. Sure, texting is no doubt easier, but sometimes you’ve gotta cut to the chase.

Just because you can type “u” faster than “you” doesn’t mean “will u go 2 prm w me” is an acceptable way to ask someone to the biggest dance of the year. Shoot for proper capitalization, grammar and punctuation, please!

Be direct. Don’t beat around the bush, babe. Instead of playing 20 questions: Prom edition, ask your bestie or your dream beau straight out if they wanna be your date. They’ll appreciate your confidence and your ability to speak up to snag the date you want.

Get creative! If your cell phone has a camera (and we’re betting it probably does), why not use it? TextPlus recommends texting a picture of yourself holding a sign that reads, “Will you go to prom with me?” Simple, cute and to the point.

Tell us, babes: What’s the most creative way you’ve heard of someone being asked to prom?
