Hair care and skin care get all the hype, but what about scalp care? Even if your scalp isn’t noticeably itchy or oily, it could be begging for the attention it deserves. Plus, once your scalp is in shape, your hair will grow thicker and longer, too. Ready to have the healthiest scalp (and thickest hair) ever? Read on to find out how.
Stock up on supplies

The first step in revamping your scalp health is gathering some scalp care must-haves. First, snag a refreshing scalp oil. We like to think of scalp oils as sort of moisturizer for your hair—they lock in moisture to keep away dryness *and* prevent breakage. (Buh-bye, split ends!)
Next up? You’ll need a scalp massager. Trust us, there is *nothing* like a good scalp massage after a long day. Not only does it feel like pure bliss, but it also improves blood circulation, which helps your hair grow long and strong (life goals, met!).
Another must-have is an exfoliating scalp scrub, like a fluffy whipped option or a liquid scrub. Over time, dead skin cells and excess oil can build up on your scalp between hair strands. Your scalp scrub’s job is to clear away all that gunk to nix the dandruff and give your hair room to grow.
You’ll also need a moisturizing serum to rejuvenate your scalp after the scrub (in case the exfoliating was a *little* too much). Finally, finish off your hair care haul with a light sunscreen made for your part. Sunburned scalps = wayyyy too flaky for us.
Perfect your routine

Most girls already have a hair care routine, so all you really need to do is incorporate your new scalp products into your routine. Start the change by massaging your scalp for a full minute or two every time you wash your hair.
Try adding just one deep clean day to your week for scalp treatments (think: a scrub or serum). We also recommend shampooing your hair (gasp!) twice in one shower once a week. We know it sounds crazy, but trust us, it’s worth the extra time. The first shampoo gets rid of the surface-level dirt so that, once your hair’s been cleaned by the first go-around, the second shampoo will be able to work its way down deep and clean out any excess oil on your scalp.
Keep it consistent

Would you expect to get glass skin after just one wash with a new product? Yeah, we don’t think so. It’s kinda the same with scalp care–unless you stick to your new routine, it won’t make much of a difference. No matter how much gunk you clean out, it’ll come back in the blink of an eye if you don’t keep up with your scalp care. But how exactly *do* you stay consistent with it?
We recommend stacking it with other activities you already heart, like pairing your once-a-week scalp care with your weekly skincare deep clean. All that’s left now? To get scrubbing! Lucious locks, here you come!
