What was once a niche obsession for skincare nerds is about to go fully mainstream: Korean beauty (and the cutting-edge chemistry behind it) is taking over. Just look at the shelves at Ulta and Sephora, where K-beauty brands are multiplying fast. Olive Young, the cult-fave Seoul-based retailer, is set to open its first U.S. store in Los Angeles this May.
As with most trends, you can thank TikTok for putting K-beauty on just about everyone’s radar. While it’s known for multi-step routines, the K-philosophy is actually simple (gentle, hydrating, barrier-friendly). And if you’ve ever tried snail mucin serums, a moisturizing sheet mask or a fan-fave Laneige lippie, you can count yourself a member of the K-beauty club.
While K-beauty’s “glass skin” standard is still thriving, brands are constantly rolling out new ingredients, textures and innovations. So what’s next? Bring on the bounce, courtesy of products that leave your skin plump and supple. “In Korea, a lot of innovation is focused on strengthening the foundation of the skin,” says Charlotte Cho, co-founder of the K-beauty site Soko Glam. “The goal isn’t shine for the sake of shine—it’s skin that looks fresh from every angle.”
Ready to get in first on the K-beauty buys about to dominate your feed? We vetted the hottest, most hyped products to find out what’s really worth adding to your cart.
Jelly Mists
Face mists with jelly-like textures are having a major moment. These formulas don’t just feel fun—their fine spray locks in hydration before it can evaporate. “These mists are ideal for dehydrated, sensitive or acne-prone skin because they hydrate without clogging pores,” says Dr. Omer Ibrahim, dermatologist and co-founder of Salmalita Cosmetics. Keep one in your bag to refresh throughout the day—like Mixik Jelly Toner Instantly Hydrating Mist ($25, mixikskin.com)—or spritz between steps to help your other products better sink in, suggests derma-ologist and head of Bano Cosmetics Dr. Jae Yong Ban.
Panthenol and Ceramides
Just like an umbrella helps you stay dry, your skin needs a strong outer layer to protect itself. “The skin barrier prevents moisture loss and shields from external irritants,” says Dr. Ban. Many K-beauty products focus on strengthening the barrier for long-term skin health, using ingredients like panthenol (a fancy name for provitamin B5) and ceramides (aka lipids or natural fats). Try them out in the Jumiso D-Panthenol Barrier Soothing Cleansing Milk ($24, oliveyoung.com).

Cica
“Skin does not change overnight—it’s improved by daily habits and consistent care,” Dr. Ban explains. Products that promise instant results often rely on harsh actives that can actually weaken your skin. K-beauty, on the other hand, gives you a glow in the gentlest way. If your complexion is sensitive or stressed, the medicinal herb centella asiatica (aka cica) is your face’s new best friend. It soothes irritation and supports recovery for radiant, happy skin. Find it in Bano Cosmetics Alpha Arbutin Triple Cream ($24, banocos.com).
Fermented Rice Water
Cultured ingredients are a K-beauty staple. Just like kimchi benefits your gut, fermented skincare helps your complex- ion absorb products more effectively while supporting its microbiome, says Dr. Ibrahim. Try fermented rice water in Haruharu Wonder Black Rice Probiotics Barrier Essence ($28, haruharuusa.com), which hydrates, smooths texture and keeps your skin barrier healthy.
Toner Pads
Toner pads that double as mini masks are a genius K-beauty upgrade. Leave one on your skin for up to 10 minutes as a quick treatment for breakouts or dark spots, then swipe it across your face to gently exfoliate. Medicube Exosome Cica Calming Toner Pads ($28, medicube.us) contain niacinamide (a form of vitamin B3), which helps brighten while controlling oil, says Dr. Ibrahim—making them a one-step glow booster.
The New SPF
Multi-tasking products aren’t just convenient—they’re smarter skincare. “A product that hydrates, calms and supports the barrier simultaneously reduces the need for layering multiple actives, which lowers irritation risk,” says Dr. Ibrahim. Look for formulas that do more than one job, like Koolsol Ultra Light Invisible Mineral Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 50 ($25, koolsolbeauty.com), which hydrates, supports skin health and shields you from harmful UV rays.
