Exclusive! Kenzie Moore debuts new song "Body of Armor"

Not everyone can say that Celine Dion once complimented their voice, but some—ahem, Kenzie Moore—can. Though she was young, the now 22-year-old singer/songwriter from Michigan remembers being encouraged by Celine's kind words and took them to heart. The rest is a blur of choir performances, talent shows, piano practices, roles in musicals and anything else Kenzie could do to hone her talent and get herself on a stage. Now, this gorg girl is stepping out on her own and premiering her new track "Body of Armor" with GL.

This song is completely Betty Who meets Adele and—oh my gosh—you just need to listen to it below.

Along with her song premiere, GL also chatted exclusively to Kenzie about the meaning behind this divine track, her debut album and opening for Heffron Drive—eek!

Girls' Life: When did first become interested in singing and songwriting?

Kenzie Moore: I have always loved music because it was a huge part of my household growing up. I always sang along to Disney princesses, but then again, who didn't? In college, when I was tired of singing the same songs, I started writing my own and voilá, a songwriter was born!

GL: "Body of Armor" is such a powerful song. What inspired it?

Kenzie: It's so funny because I walked into [the] studio ‎with a different idea of how I wanted this song to go but, of course, as the studio always goes, things change for the better—and it's so much better than I ever imagined it. I wanted a song that was a love song but also kind of shows that women can be strong, too. We can not only fight our own battles but we are there for the ones we love. It isn't always the man needing to save the damsel in distress, we can be the superhero, too.

GL: Tell us about your upcoming debut album—we want deets, girl!

Kenzie: I am so excited to release my debut album. It's such a great representation of who I am as a person and as a musician. It has a little bit of everything for everyone. I'm really anxious to see what everyone has to say when they hear it because I think it has a little bit of everything in it. Anybody can find something to connect with in the music.

GL: We *need* to see you perform live! Do you have any plans to tour?

Kenzie: I recently got to open for Heffron Drive and that was amazing. It got me really excited to get out in front of people so they can hear my new music. My focus right now is my single and my debut full length album dropping in late September, but after that I will *definitely* be playing shows well into next year!
