Happy Presidents Day? A look the long weekend's anti-Trump protests

While some people are using this Presidents Day for relaxation, others used it to get, or continute to be, politically active. “Not My Presidents Day” rallies are being held in cities such as Los Angeles, New York, Denver, Kansas City, Washington D.C. and more, with protesters numbering in or near the thousands at each location, according to USA Today. Some of these rallies call for the impeachment of President Donald Trump just a month into his presidency, and all of them are meant to target Trump’s administration and policies and maintain resistance momentum.

According to WXIA, one of the marches in Atlanta, called “ImPEACH Now,” spanned a five mile sidewalk journey in the city. The event’s Facebook page featured an image of a halved peach with Trump’s face on the pit (above), and over 600 people were expected to attend. Another event in Ann Arbor, Mich. called “Bad Hombres and Nasty Women” featured performances and benefited Planned Parenthood, a healthcare organization Trump has promised to defund, says The Detroit News.

Since Trump’s inauguration, there have been protests every weekend on issues ranging from climate change to immigration, reported USA Today. Last weekend, hundreds of scientists in Boston marched to advocate for Trump to acknowledge climate change and its effects, and peaceful protestors took to the streets in major cities like Los Angeles and Dallas to advocate for "sanctuary cities" to end immigration raids. On Saturday, protesters in New York held a mock funeral for the United States, and on Sunday over 1,000 protesters gathered in the city for the "I Am A Muslim Too" rally in support of Muslim Americans.
