Social media can sometimes get a bad rep, but other times it saves lives.

When a tree trapped 10-year-old Brianna Vance’s dad, Gregory, after a horrific storm, things seemed pretty bleak.

Trapped inside with her mom and her sibling, Brianna and her family tried calling out to her father and his friends who had been sitting out on the porch, only to get no response. To make matters worse, the storm had knocked out the phone signals, meaning they couldn’t call for help.

Realizing she still had a Wifi signal, Brianna leaped in to action, quickly recording a video on her cell phone and posting it to Facebook in a desperate plea for help.

“The lightning crashed and hit a tree by our porch and my dad's almost dead,” she begged in the video. “He needs an ambulance please. Please call one for us if you have signal. We live in a yellow house."

Luckily, someone on Facebook saw her plea and called 911. Firemen were able to cut Brianna’s dad and his friends out from under the tree, before a rescue crew rushed them to the hospital.

Gregory Vance was treated for five broken ribs and a broken collarbone, arriving home from the hospital just in time for father’s day. Lt. Tim Granger from the fire department that performed the rescue said that Brianna’s heroic quick thinking saved the day, and maybe even her father’s life.

Brianna didn't care about being recognized for her heroism, however, and was just happy her dad was home.

"I love you, dad, and I'm so happy you are home and happy to be your helper," she posted on her Facebook after the incident.
