Feel-Good Friday: Spout happy tears over this giraffe's farewell to a zoo employee

We adore animals at Feel-Good Friday. Sure, their fluff and fuzz make us positively squee-tastic. But the real reason why they hold a special place in our hearts is simple: they’re our friends.

And just like a good friend, they can always tell when you need cheering up. Crummy day at school? Roscoe will nuzzle up to you without expecting a treat. Fight with your bestie? You can count on Tiger to curl up on your lap, gently purring as a reminder that everything will be OK.

Mario, a dying cancer patient, had such a moment at his last visit to Rotterdamn’s Diegaarde Blijdorp. There, the 54-year-old worked as a zoo maintenance man for most of his life.

Lying in his hospital bed, they took him to the giraffe habitat. One of the giraffes, sensing something was wrong, walked up to him and gave Mario a gentle kiss on his forehead.

“You could totally see him light up,” said the director of Ambulance Wish Foundation, which organized the goodbye. Excuse us as we grab a new box of tissues.
