Decisions, Decisions

Apples or oranges? Yogurt or granola bar? Oh the decisions you have! Not sure which one to choose? Starting August 2008, a new food rating system may be able to help you. The Overall Nutritional Quality Index rates food and drinks between 1 and 100 based on overall nutritional. This index has more than 25 food factors, such as fiber, vitamins, sugar, sodium and trans fats.

Next time you go to the market with your 'rents, you can help them make healthy choices. With this new system, you will be able to compare the nutritional value of different foods to see which one is healthier for you. So next time mom reaches for the strawberry frosted Pop-Tarts at the grocery store, let her know you’d rather have the fresh fruit instead.
