Selena Gomez just got an incredibly important tattoo
Selena Gomez just made an incredibly important statement.
On Sunday, Selena and two cast members from 13 Reasons Why, Alisha Boe and Tommy Dorfman, got matching semicolon tattoos on their arms. Selena is a producer on the Netflix original show based on the book by Jay Asher about Hannah Baker, a teenager who commits suicide. Selena has called the show a "passion project" of hers, and says she's been overwhemled by the response and love it has received since it premiered on March 31.
But why did they all get a semicolon? It was in honor of Project Semicolon, "a movement dedicated to presenting hope and love to those who struggle with mental illness, suicide, addiction and self-injury," all topics that are covered heavily on the show.
In an Instagram caption, Tommy, who plays Ryan, writes, “The ; symbol stands for an end of one thought and a beginning of another. Instead of a period, authors use the semicolon to continue a sentence. For us, it means a beginning of another chapter in life, in lieu of ending your life." Alisha, who plays Jessica, also added, " Rest In Peace Amy Bleuel, who started this movement."
