Kalama Epstein talks The Fosters summer finale

If you can believe it, the season four summer finale of The Fosters is tomorrow. It honestly feels like just yesterday we were breathing a sigh of relief after Stef helped to tame Anchor Beach's gun scare and rejoicing when Jude met the mega cute (and intimidatingly confident) Noah. How can the season be (halfway) over already?!

We've spent much of it watching Jude and Noah flirt up a storm, get up to plenty of mischief and be all kinds of adorable. Really, it's so cool to see that even though Jude was heartbroken when his last boyf Connor moved to Los Angeles, he's getting close with someone new. And we can't think of a better 'someone new' for our Jude than Noah, portrayed by 16-year-old Kalama Epstein.

You may recognize Kalama from Bella and the Bulldogs or Hawaii Five-0, but we don't think any of his past characters come close to the awesomeness that is his role as Noah.

When GL caught up with Kalama, he excitedly chatted about all things The Fosters—including how fast he clicked with the cast, what it's like to play the openly gay son of a pastor (spoiler alert: it's totally NBD) and what's to come in the most "shocking" episode of the show yet. These are must-read deets before you watch tomorrow's finale!

Girls' Life: The entire cast of The Fosters seem *so* cool. Did you get along well with Hayden Byerly, Maia Mitchell and the rest of the gang?

Kalama Epstein: I was nervous about how we would get along when I first showed up on set but we instantly clicked. It’s really, really been a blast to work with the entire cast. They’ve all been very accepting and welcoming. I couldn’t ask for more.

GL: What's it like to play Noah?

Kalama: It’s nice to be able to portray real teens. [Noah's] mom is a pastor and he’s openly gay, and very proud of that. His church is very accepting, which is amazing because there’s not a lot of gay characters that are portrayed in that way.

GL: That's so true. What do the fans think of Noah and Joah/Judah?

Kalama: One of the first things I thought when I came onto the show was that fans were not going to like my character. But the fan reaction has been amazing. A lot of people have loved the character and have loved the Joah ship. I’ve been very overwhelmed with all the love.

GL: What’s been your favorite episode of The Fosters to film so far?

Kalama: was a blast because of our wardrobe. That was a lot of fun. That was definitely my favorite I’ve ever had to wear. When I first got it on I was like, ‘Ugh, this is tight!’ and then I slowly fell in love with my wardrobe over the week.

GL: So—what can fans expect from tomorrow's episode? We're dying to know!

Kalama: Without any spoilers, it’s definitely the most intense episode.

GL: Intense for you and Jude, or in general?

Kalama: Overall…from the table read there was many a loud gasp and I'm so excited for everyone to see this episode.
