How one girl made the perfect prom dress with just $15

Prom night is supposed to be the dance of every girl's dreams, from the luxurious limo to your sweetie in a killer tux to you in a stunning gown. But making that dream come true can be *super* expensive (in fact, the average teen spends almost $1,000 on prom, yikes!). Shami Oshun, a 17-year-old from California, wasn't about to let that hefty price tag stop her, thoughshe decided to be the belle of the ball...on a budget.

A $15 budget, to be exact. The self-taught seamstress and designer (peep her line here) live-tweeted her dressmaking which she started the night before prom (after agreeing to go so her BFF didn't have to go alone) when she realized that she, uh, had nothing to wear.

Using an old white dress as a base, Shami added purple tulle, flowers and even diamonds. The entire process took her about five hourstwo the night before and three the day of the dance. Even when her sewing machine broke partway through, Shami perservered, hand stitching the rest of the dress.

The result: A seriously stunning strapless gown that looks like it belongs on the red carpet of the Met Gala. So what's next for the talented teen? Shami recently tweeted that "maybe next year I'll be able to make Rihanna's dress!" We're rooting for you, girl!
