A guide to the faux freckle trend

Freckles just might be the next major beauty trend. Fortunately, you don't need to have natural spots to embrace this adorable look. With a little makeup, everyone can get their own "faux freckles."

The widespread appeal of faux freckles is understandable. They add dimension to the face and can easily draw attention to the eyes. In an interview, makeup guru Sarah Lucero told Elle, "Freckles instantly make the complexion look fresh, as if you have no foundation on."

Though the application process changes slightly based on skin tone and texture, generally it is very simple. Most beauty sites suggest using an eyebrow liner or pencil to draw on the freckles, with some blending and defining required afterwards. To see which technique may be best, watch Popsugar's faux freckle beauty tutorial, which shows viewers different steps for creating these beauty marks according to skin type.

For now, take a peek at these YouTubers who have been spotted sporting faux freckles.

1. James Charles. In this quick and easy video tutorial, CoverBoy James Charles leads viewers through each step for applying faux freckles. James actually applies his faux freckles to his forehead and chin in addition to his nose and cheeks, creating a balanced look. Just wait until you see the end result!

2. Chantel Jeffries. Chantel's technique is a little different, but it looks just as stunning. Instead of penciling or drawing on each of her freckles, she recommends using a mascara wand to scrape the powder out of an eyeshadow palette. Later she uses an eyebrow pen, brushes and foundation to finish off her look.

3. Hannah Blair. This 16-year-old YouTuber chooses to use the Anastasia Brow Wiz to create her spots. Hannah adds spots not just to her cheeks and the bridge of her nose, but she carries them up to her temples, too, for a more natural, sun-kissed look. For major glow, she tops it all off with a layer of bronzer, translucent powder and highlighter.

4. Sonjdradeluxe. The Vancouver-based makeup artist's approach is all about layers. Sonjdra starts off by drawing on a coat of lighter freckles. Later, she uses a tiny brush to add on a darker layer, which helps to make each spot stand out more.
