I haven't had my period yet but when I'm sitting in class
and doing my work, down there starts to stink! How do I make it smell better?
My mom said to use soap so I do every time I take a shower but the smell never
goes away. What should I do?
In life, everyone has little insecurities that they have to
learn to deal with. As a female, it is likely that we’ll have to deal with some
sort of vaginal odor at some point during puberty. Many women are embarrassed
by vaginal odor, yet in reality, most of the women around you have dealt with
the exact same issue.
The facts
The sour scent you smell could come from a variety of causes
ranging from lack of personal hygiene to a yeast infection. The soap you’re
washing with could actually be part of the problem. Cleansers and feminine
hygiene products get rid of good and bad
bacteria, making it difficult for your vagina to regulate and clean itself
naturally.
Helpful tips
Improving your personal hygiene is the easiest way to
eliminate vaginal odors. Make sure you rinse your private parts with warm water
in the shower, but avoid using soap or feminine hygiene products. Also try to wear loose cotton clothing
to allow more air circulation. It may surprise you, but lace and thick material
underwear can really prevent the necessary air passage.
If the scent lingers, talk to your doctor.
