I just found out my best friend since first grade is switching to a private school. We are both really sad. What can I do to cope and make new friends at my school!?

Bummer! It will definitely be an adjustment to not see her every day in school, but it could actually be a good thing if you let it. You may have to make an extra effort to make sure you plan to spend time with each other, but think about how much you'll have to talk about when you do get to talk or hang out!
Take this as an opportunity to expand your social network and make new friends that you otherwise wouldn't. You'll definitely make new friends at school to keep yourself from getting lonely, so don't worry about that -- but just think: she'll also make new friends at her new school who she could introduce you to! She's not moving away so you can still easily maintain your friendship, but you both may find that you meet some great people and make some important connections that would never have been possible if she hadn't switched schools.
