Bill: A few years ago, I would have said, “No way!” Now, I say, “They work better than they did a few years ago.” E-mail, instant- and text-messaging, and unlimited cell-phone service make distance a virtual non-issue in relationships. But you can’t hold hands on an IM, and there’s no hugging on the cell—even with free minutes. So communication is a lot easier, but that’s no substitute for sharing fries in the caf.
