"No really, my job is the worst."

"
Ever have a summer job that was absolutely miserable? Like, so bad you wished that you were back in school learning differential calculus instead? You're not alone. We spoke to four girls whose summer jobs were *actually* the worst—but they made the best of it. Read on:

Snack shop of horrors

“I worked at a pool snack shack as my first job when I was 14. I was a cashier who sat in a burning hot kitchen in the middle of July and had to watch kids play and tan through a small window that opened up to give customers their food. I was paid $4 an hour because they said I would make a lot in tips, but I didn't. There wasn't even a tip jar! I worked five days a week, but I got through it by making friends with my coworkers and the cute lifeguards at the pool.” - Brooke W.

Pool problems

"Two summers ago, I was hired as a lifeguard. I loved to swim, so I was actually really excited. Little did I know that I was not only the only newbie that was hired that summer, but I was also the youngest of the employees...so I was stuck doing all the tedious work. I was in charge of vacuuming the pool every night and guarding all by myself for the morning swim shifts, which were from 5am-7am. As much as I wanted to quit, I realized I couldn't just walk away from something I had committed to. Instead, I kindly approached my manager and explained my concern. Even though he only gave me the next two morning shifts off, it was better than nothing." - Helena A.

Doggy droppings

“Three days a week, I worked at a dog kennel and had to clean up after the dogs...poop and all. It was gross, but worth it overall because I got to play with the dogs too. My advice would be to focus on the positives of your job.” - Kelly M.

Snooze fest

“I had the most boring desk job for the past few summers, and it was just downright painful to get through. It never got much better, but I learned something important: The more you look at the time, the slower it passes by.” - Regina H.

Have you ever had a terrible summer job? What good, if any, came out of it?
