    Chalky-cute

Who to make it for: Your fave teacher.

Everyone will love this fun and unique way to customize a coaster, but the person who’d be especially impressed? Your teacher. Make a set of 4, wrap them up in a bow with chalk attached, and write “World’s best teacher” in chalk on them. A+ craft skills—you’ll def be teacher’s pet after break.

    What you'll need:

    • 4 tiles (buy from the Flooring section at Lowes or Home Depot)
    • Chalkboard spray paint
    • Felt or Corkboard sheets
    • Hot glue

    Instructions:

    1. Take your 4 tiles outside and spray them with the chalkboard paint. Wait until dry, and then apply one more coat.

2.Once the tiles are completely dry, flip them over and cut the felt or corkboard sheet to fit the back, and then carefully glue it to the back of the tile.

    3. Wrap your coasters in a bow and attach a piece of chalk and your teach will be crazy impressed. SO much better than giving teach an apple—so overdone.

    Patterned prezzie

Who to make it for: Mom

Got a drawer filled with old scrapbook paper you have yet to use? Recycle ‘em into cute coasters that you couldn’t find at any stores. You’re mom would love it because it’s a personalized gift that fits her personality, and you took time and effort to make it.

    What you'll need:

    • 4 tiles
    • Scrapbook paper
    • Mod podge
    • Paintbrush
    • Sealant spray or polyurethane

    Instructions:

    1. Cut your scrapbook paper to fit your tile (if your mom or dad has a paper cutter, ask if you can borrow it—but be careful!).

    2. Paint a thin layer of mod podge directly on the tile and then place the scrapbook paper square on top of it.

    3. Seal it with two more coats of mod podge. When dry, apply three layers of water proof sealant and you’ll have yourself a trendy coaster that any mom would like to show off when having company over.

Note: Got a cute picture of you and mom lying around that you don’t have a frame for? Replace the scrapbook paper with the picture. Mod podge the pic on the tile, cover it with 2 more coats of mod podge, and top it off with a sealant spray or polyurethane.

    Glitter gifts galore

Who to make this for: Sis

If you know anything about GL, you know that we love glitter. It makes the world a happy place, so if you add it to your DIY, it will make for a very merry present that your sis will be obsessed with.

    What you'll need:

    • 4 tiles
    • Glitter
    • Mod podge
    • Paint brush
    • Sealant
    •

    Instructions:

    1. Brush a layer of mod podge onto a tile and pour a thick layer of glitter on top—the more glitter, the better.

    2. Once dry, spray a sealant over top of the tile. Expect some glitter to come off—totally normal.

    3. The last step is to give it to your sister and have her wonder how you found a coaster that’s as fab as she is.

    Wonderful watercolors

Who to make it for: Bestie

Everyone would love to be a famous painter, but let’s be honest, the only painting we do is abstract. Combine your artistic skills with gift-giving this year and provide your bestie with a coaster that doubles as a work of art.

    What you'll need:

    • 4 tiles
    • 3 different sharpies
    • Rubbing alcohol
    • Eye dropper
    • Spray fixative
    • Polyurethane sealant

    Instructions:

    1. Color your tile with sharpie using at least 3 colors (it doesn’t matter how you color it).

    2. Then, fill an eye dropper with rubbing alcohol and put several drops of alcohol on the tile (don’t drop too many—you don’t want the pools of alcohol to blur together).

    3. Wait for them to dry; it may take a while.

    4. Next, hold the tile about 6 inches away from you and spray a thin layer of fixative on top.

    5. When dry, spray 2 coats of sealant over top.

    6. Wrap ‘em up and give ‘em to your closest friends!
