How to spring clean the right way
Step 1. Divide your room into sections
There’s your bed (and what lies beneath—shiver), your closet, your dresser and your desk. Tackle them one at a time, not all at once.
Step 2. Start with the section you dread the most
For me, that’s always the closet, but it doesn’t matter where you start as long as you begin in one section, finish it, then move on.
Step 3. Pull every single thing out
I mean every item, down to the very last paperclip littering the bottom of your desk drawer.
Step 4. Trash the trash
You know, old homework assignments, receipts from Christmas shopping and old water bottles.
Step 5. Return little lost things
Put the misplaced items (like all your rogue hair ties) back where they belong.
Step 6. Tackle what’s left
Be merciless. If you haven’t used it in a year, it goes in the trash or gets donated. If you’re left looking at a pile of mementos you can’t part with but don’t want to keep cluttering up your room, grab a box (you can get ‘em for free at grocery or liquor stores, just go in and ask) and pack them away carefully.
Step 7. Move on
But only after your last section is completely clean, all the trash and debris is removed and you have fresh garbage bags. Ah, nothin’ like a clean slate!
