Train like a champ: A college field hockey player takes us through her summer workout

Chloe Morakis may look like your average college student, but she’s not. Although that sort of sounds like the intro to a new Disney Channel show about a secret life, it's actual reality. Most high school seniors’ make college decisions based off the majors that are offered, class sizes, Greek life, campus location, etc., but not Chloe! For her, the big college decision came down to one main, final factor: the school’s field hockey program. Now, she is a rising sophomore at Dickinson College in Carlisle, PA, and a member of the Field Hockey team. But being a college athlete is no easy task. Not only do athelets juggle school with practice, there are also intense workouts and training sessions all year round to make sure they're in tip-top shape when their season arrives. Here, Chloe shares with GL some of her fave workouts she’s doing from the Dickinson summer packet.

    V-Ups

Lie flat on your back with your legs open in front of you like a star. Use your abs to sit up and reach one hand to the opposite foot. Repeat this 10 times, alternating what foot you reach out to touch.

    Reps: 20x

    Squat jumps

Stand up straight with your legs shoulder width apart. Bend down into a squat. Make sure your back is straight and your knees don’t bend over your toes. Clasp your hands together and use the muscles in your legs to spring up.

    Reps: 20x

    Hand release push ups

Get down on the ground and into a standard push up position as seen above. Push down and let your body rest on the ground. Lift your hands up a few inches from the ground. Immediately, push them back down to the ground and do a push up.

    Reps: 20x

    Mountain climbers

Start in standard push up position. Bring your right leg into your chest then push it back. Do the same with your left leg. Try to go as fast as you can! This workout should be done at a super fast pace.

    Reps: 20x (10 per leg!)
