The secret to boosting your workout? Buddy up!

 
Have you ever suited up for a sweat session, swearing you'd hit the treadmill for a full 45 minutes...and then cut out for just about any excuse imaginable? Yeah, us too. The next time ya slip on your sneakers, though, you might wanna do it with a friend. A recent study found that we tend to push ourselves harder when we work out with a partner...especially with a partner who is more athletic than we are.
 
During the study, various participants were set up with a cyber workout partner. As a control, the participants biked solo first, and averaged a 10-minute workout. When with the partner, their average workout times doubled. And when they were "teamed up" with the partner, they worked even harder. Better yet, the participants said that they didn't feel more exhausted at the end of their more intensive, partnered workouts--they felt satisfied about keeping up and working with someone else. Now how's that for a workout you can be happy with?
