The Problem is Me!

GIRL TALK: Crime Stopper

I LUV crime shows and I watch about 1-2 hours of them each day after school. After about 5 days of watching crime shows, that’s all I think about and then I get really scared at night. How can I still watch my favorite shows without getting scared at night?

I guess it’s a testament to how far television has come…that things are so real on TV that you often have a difficult time differentiating between what is reality and what is fiction. I guess in your case, what you watch unfortunately does translate into real life occurrences. I am a fan of CSI and Law and Order and all of that, mostly because what goes on when it comes to crime investigation is so complicated and always interesting. I don’t think you have to cut back on your TV watching or find something else to like. You are obviously drawn to these programs for a reason. However, it is important to know that while shows like that are either based on actual cases or are representative of things that could happen, YOU are safe. You are in your own home with your parents, who I am sure lock up every single night. Nothing is going to happen to you. It might help to alternate shows, watch the crime ones and then add in a funny/happy one like Friends at the end so that your last waking moments are spent watching something that makes you feel good. Whenever I watch something scary I put on the Food Network or Disney (don’t judge). It calms me down and gets my mind off of other scary things that I have just watched and believe me, I have a nightlights all over my apartment because I scare very easily.

A positive that can come from you watching these shows is 1. They are often portrayals of realistic situations, learn from them. Some valuable lessons can be learned from shows that recreate dangerous situations. 2. They give a little insight to what goes on in police investigations, which is cool to know and 3. You are probably drawn to them because you have an interest in law and social responsibility. I can’t say that life as a lawyer, a judge, a policeman or a crime scene investigator is always that exciting, but those professions definitely do good for humanity. Maintain a balance and you will be fine. If it becomes too much to handle, maybe you need to take a break from all of those shows for a while.

I love to watch crime shows too. My faborite is CSI. I've never had nightmares but I have had scary thoughts about some of those shows.

I've been watching CSI since 1st grade , but I don't watch those shows very much , if I od its in the daytime , cuz I will get fraked out.

I don't have that problem, but I also like those kind of shows, and I hate leaving my day on that note, so I usually watch Friends or That 70's Show right before bed... that way I can leave off on a good note! And if it STILL bothers you after that then just try to keep your mind off of it when it comes to bedtime. I like sucking on peppermints, and I fall asleep really fast, without having to stay awake thinking about those things. Hope I helped a little!

i was on a bike ride w/ mi bff last weekend. we went to her coisens house and he had a friend over. mi bff has a crush on him. i used to think he was ugly but now i think he's hot! i told mi bff and she got all mad at mi for likeing the same guy she likes! the next day she went to six flags with her coisen and she told him that i like his friend! so mi and mi bfff were at the football game friday nite and her coisen told mi u like u like N. and he he was like i told him that u like him! and i'm pissed! i want to go out w/ him and i'm pissed at mi bff and her coisen! but mi bff says there is nothing to be pissed about!

there are these 2 guys. lets call them bob and bill cuz they hav the same name. i hav a huge crush on bob. bill has never been anything more than a friend. both of their friends tell me they have huge crushes on me. now my 5th period teacher keeps on telling me to stop flirting with bill whenever i talk to him and make jokes, which is so not true. and now bob thinks i like bill but im not gonna stop talking to bill cuz he's an AWESOME friend. i told bob that i liked him but he never really said much... he just said he likes a girl from a diff school with the same name as me. i dont want to lose any of them as friends... wat should i do???

MOD -- I have a twin sister and we do EVERYTHING together. We go to the same school, but our school only has one class per grade so we are in the same class. We have the same friends, and I don't want to give up any of my friends! We are on the same sports teams. And whenever I can get a moment to myself, BOOM! she's there. We are always referred to as 'the twins' or 'my name and her name,' never just individual people which we are. I am getting really sick of having to spend every second with her! Can you help me? Thanks!

I just always have a comfort read or listen to poppy music. I don't lisen to that stuff awesome, but combined with reading its very comforting.

at night after i watch crime scene things to, i can't get to sleep because i am scared so i just think: what if tonight i hadn't watched something scary? what if i had watched something funny? then i wouldn't be scared now... So i just remind myself that, and i can get to sleep much easier...

I LUV CRIME SHOWS TOO!!! but they freak me out lots! I usually wait a few hours before going to bed after watching them so i get it outta my mind a lil bit! reading works too! but make sure your not reading an agatha christie murder novel lol!!

omg I luvvv crime shows!! i always watch them right before i go to bed!! but they never scare me. i always think that "yeah these are realistic happenings but what are the chances of it happening to me?" and i know not to do whatever the character did to get themselves in trouble. I reccomend not watching them before you go to bed if they scare you.

I'm going to a soccer game with my friends tonight, and my crush is gonna be there. I just waxed my upper lip (it was looking pretty fuzzy ) and now it's all red. Do you have any ideas on how to get the redness to go away? I have to leave in about half an hour.

OMG I USED TO WATCH CSI LAS VEGAS SO MUCH UNTIL THE EPISODE WHERE NICK GOT KIDNAPPED AND BURRIED ALIVE IN A COFFIN...I COULDN'T SLEEP FOR MONTHS! JUST THINKING ABOUT IT COMPLETELY FREAKS ME OUT!

it's great tht ur watching stuff you like, but try watching it as far away from your bedtime as possible..oh and read something happy or watching something funny before bed!

same thing with me! i loveeeee cops shows, crime shows, and that weird "the haunting" show on discovery. i get so freaked out at night so i watch another network or read to get my mind in something else....im still scared at night though. even if i watch them during the day...

I can relate to you, but I am addicted and freaked by ghost shows and horror movies. One of my favorite shows is "A True Life Haunting." I watch it all the time, though it scares the life out of me. I also watched Chukie which led to me throwing out all of my childhood dolls.. I watch Family Guy to make me laugh and calm me.

(moderater) Omg im going to a friends bday party today and its gonna be at a haunted house! Im excited, but scared at the same time. I absolutely hate haunted houses. I have the same problem. So what i do is that i record it and like in the morning or afternoon before school i turn on the TV and watch. If you can't record this didn't help you. But if you can maybe it did. =]
