GIRL TALK: Who Says?

My two best girl friends always call me weird. I know they don't mean it, but it still bugs me, because people who aren't my friends always call me weird and nerdy and stuff at school because my IQ is 142. (NOT TRYING TO BRAG!!!) I just hate the word weird. Who gets to define normal and weird anyway?

You’re absolutely right! Exactly who gets to decide what is “normal” and what is “weird”? No one, that’s who! So you’re a little bit different, that doesn’t make you weird—it makes you unique.

In middle school I was teased relentlessly for being smart. I was the “teacher’s pet,” a “smartie pants,” “nerd”…you name it, my classmates and so-called friends called me it! And I’m not going to lie—it’s not the best feeling in the world. But try to understand what I had to learn the hard way. You should never, ever let anyone make you feel bad about the way you are.

Definitely try talking to your friends about how their teasing makes you feel. You could say, “Hey, I know you probably don’t mean anything by it, but it really hurts my feelings when you guys call me weird. I just think it’s really offensive and rude.” This gives them an opportunity to understand where they’re coming from and a chance to try and change their ways.

Remember, no one can change overnight, so try to be patient with your friends. But if they continue to be rude, it may be time to rethink your friendship. More than likely, they probably don’t even realize they’re hurting your feelings. You’re a smart girl and that’s great! You don’t have to apologize to anyone for your brainpower. Embrace that wonderful noggin of yours and be proud of who you are! Besides, there’s a little bit of “weird” in all of us…and that’s a good thing!

If you can't hide an emergency pad in your backpack, you can always take a trip to the nurse's office they have plenty. You'll be fine, but you can't spent your whole day worrying about it.

Hey girl,

You should ask a professional about doing light exercises for toning. Perhaps your gym teacher would be a good guide. Hope this helps.

MOD I'm 5'3" and 125 pounds. I know I'm fat, even though my doctor called me normal. He said it "wouldn't hurt to lose 10 lbs, but according to charts, I wasn't overweight." I saw the charts and I'm on the verge of being overweight... again. I used to be like 140. Know any fun workouts?

okay well i have this friend. we cheer for our school and she's always getting mad at me if i get to try a new stunt that she didnt or sometime she well just get mad at me over any thing (even if i dont do any thing) and i try talking to her about how i getts me mad that she does that to me but i guess that doesnt work. i try to show her that she shouldn't treat me like that. we have been friends for so long i cant just stop being her friend and plus we have all the same friends so its not like we wont see each other much. . . .please help me.<3

hi girl, you need to be more forcefull when you talk to her. Dont try to be nice to not hurt her feelings or upset her, this is about YOU and how SHE makes you feel, dont let her make this about herself. If she changes her act fine, if she keeps being bossy and annoying, ignore her. You can be friendly with her without being BFF. xo JANA

Mod- I have a big problem and this might seem kind of complicated, but I'd appreciate it if you could help. So I have am in a class with this guy who's annoying and kind of perverted. Let's call him Nathan. So today AND yesterday, Nathan has sat behind/next to me in Pre-Algebra. Yesterday, I was with my friend Emily, and today I was with another friend, Anna. So both days, Nathan and this kid Sam have been throwing me (but yesterday, Emily too) notes saying things like "I love you", "You're hot", and "You're gorgeous!" It's even getting to the point where he'll say it in the hall where other people are! He'll throw his pen on the ground in the middle of class, and say the same things while he's getting up. I am NOT interested in him, and we're too young to have a relationship anyway! He's also being mean and saying things like "Oh yeah, tons of other people like you! Me, Erik, Nick, Timon, Alex (all of whom I don't like), I mean LOOK at your competition!!!" Then we have assigned seats in Spanish, and Senora told me to sit next to this boy (Theo), who I really like (he's really nice and cute and funny and he seems to like me too (as a friend), 'cause he's saying things like "Hey Emily (or Pepe, cause as a joke I call him Carlota and he calls me Pepe), wait for me!!!" when we're leaving Spanish. We're always goofing off) Then I get a note from Nathan (he also said this when we were going to PE) saying Oh yeah, you totally like Theo, you're always giggling and acting weird/different!" I only like Theo as a friend! What can I do (for both probs)??? (And please don't say talk to a parent!!!)

Hey babes, for the first problem, just tell nathan hes obnoxious and to cut it out. If he realizes you dont think its funny and arent interested in him, he will stop. As for the second problem, I dont think you have anything to worry about, just be friends with theo and see where things go. OX JANA

i think a good balance is being smart but not an egghead, pretty (cares abt fashion and beauty) but not someone who rubs it in all the time nd doesnt think about it ALL THE TIME like putting all ur effort in2 it, and nice but not the freaky stalker-ish kind.

I think you should tell urr friends that the teasing bugs u. If they keep doing it, or if it's mean and stuff, you should leave them, pronto. You don't deserve friends who are mean. As for anyone else, just ignore them. It doesn't matter if your pretty or really smart. It matters if your a good person.

Try to make some new friends. Look for kids who DON'T call you a nerd or weird.

MOD! My life absolutely SUCKS right now. My best friend moved over the summer, and we didn't even get to say good-bye because his Dad decided to move without any motive. And to make matters worse, my other friends and I all have different classes. Plus, my family is pretty tight on money. HELP!

girl, my iq is 198. people at school call me weird, but it doesn't bug me because i know i get better grades then them and i'm going to get into a better high school and definetley a better college. i mean, when you think about it, don't think about the negative stuff, think aobut the positive stuff. also when you have a high iq like you and me we can come up with better comebeacks quicker so if someone picks on us we can hit them with, like, twenty comebacks at once.

*MOD MOD MOD MOD*** My friend and I get in fites. Usually its when she says soemthing but I know she said soemthing elese or she wasn't there when it happened , or if she says something and I know it's not true. I just get really frustrated because I know what she is sayn' isn't true. Also , when I do something to her that she has or would do to me she acts like it was the worst thing in the world and when I say she would do it to me , she denies it.How can I get a fite like this to end?? Also today I told her that her dog jumped up and pulled my necklace and its gold so it stretched out. I didn't really care that it had streched b/c it still looks fine and I can still wear it. I said she was lucky that it didn't break b/c her her mom would have had to pay for it to be fixed . My mom gave it to me and she died so it means alot to me and it hurt me when she said that the chain was "easily replacable" and she didn't seem to understand that since my mom gave it to me the whole necklace is special to me. How can I get her to see it my way?? (I asked her if she would care if her dead grandma had given her a necklace and it broke , but she said that she wouldn't care and I no she would)

MOD I have the exact same problem, well the weird part anyways because I'm not smart at all lol. I do get called weird a lot, I know I am more different than most people. I've learned to accept it. But even when I tell my friends it hurts my felings they say they're just telling the truth. And one friend said I rubbed off on her or "brainwashed", so now she's a bit weird too. Ugh. & I occasionally get these "What is she doing?" looks. I know they're jokes and stuff, but what do do? Thanks.

Jana- thanks so much for helping me out!! k so there is this guy who is sending me mixed signals and im just really confused by him. so i first met him about a month ago and he asked me for my number and he texted me later that day and was like "oh we should hang out sometime" and i was totally excited but im not allowed to text so i couldnt text him back and i know thats definantly the first place where i went wrong cause i should have talked to him about it the next day. but we talked a lot and i thought he liked me but ever since school started i havent really seen him even though we go to the same school. the only time i see him is band and he hardly even goes anymore and idk what to do cause he doesnt really talk to me much anymore and seems kind of uninterested in me now. i really like him and i want to win his attention over again what can i do? i dont want to call him though.

Hey babes, to get him interested again you need to make an effort to talk to him. You have his number, call him to see how his day was. Keep it short and sweet. If you dont see him during the day then you are never going to get his attention not to mention the fact that if you want to date this guy eventually, you need to be able to talk to himxo JANA

I mean I absolutely love her to death and we get along and everything but I just can't stand how controlling she is being. Like today was one of my friends birthdays and we (as in all my friends) were going to take her out to dinner. I called my mom after school to ask if I could go and she said no. MOD AND ANYONE ELSE!!! i need help ASAP ok so i just took a shower. and when i shower i get my legs wet and lather up with cream or jel and i shave slowly and i dont miss but my legs have terrible cuts. usually its not bad but today i got TONS OF CUTS and when i came out of the shower 30 secs later i get about 30 dots of blood all over my legs and its just the front not the back of them or the theighs. i need help! why is this happening? it usually never did until recently. and it bleeds 4 a long time like 15 mins and i wipe them and 5 secs the blood is back. im scared that i might loose a lot of blood or something bad! HELLP TIPS ASAP and i dont want to use a whole box of bandaids for 1 time..

Well, if your friends say that your weird you should confrunt them about the problem. You should ask them "Why do you call me weird?" Plus, if someone calls you names they just feel bad so they pin it on you. I have had experiance but, with shortness. If they dont stop tell a teacher, or a principal. You could just ignore them and walk away. Tell one of your parents and if you dont feel good about yourself because of those names, just talk to a counsler once a week to twice a week. That should help you a lot.
