The votes are in! Who did kids pick for president?

The folks at Scholastic have been asking kids to vote for president since 1940, and in all but two elections, they’ve picked the guy that’s ended up being sworn into office. We urged ya to vote last week, and now the polls have closed, the votes have been tallied and the results are in. Who won? Why, that’s be President Barack Obama.

Almost a quarter of a million students under the age of 18 weighed in on this year’s poll, but they didn’t overwhelming choose one candidate over the other. Though President Obama did pull out a win, the margin was by no means huge; he received 51 percent of the vote while Mitt Romney received 45 percent. Four percent of kids voted for another candidate.

Possibly more telling is the way kids in swing states like Colorado, Florida, Nevada and Michigan voted for President Obama rather than Mitt Romney. These states could mean the difference between winning or losing in the real election, so both candidates will definitely be paying tons of attention to how those voters mark their ballots.

What do you think of the results, babes?
