Is my cuz in danger?

I have a cousin who’s a year younger than me that I'm worried about. She's dating a boy who's a couple years older than her, and he's in a gang. She said that she told him she doesn't like him being in the gang, and that he's going to try to get outta it, but I'm still worried.

Even if he DOES get out of the gang, I'm worried that they could get angry or something and go after him, and she might be with him when that happens. Her mom knows that they're dating, but she doesn't know that her BF is in a gang. My cuz said she'd tell her mom after Christmas, but I'm still worried.

I can't tell my mom or else she might tell my cousin’s mom, and she might get in trouble and never trust me again. What should I do?

You’re in a very tough sitch, girl. Fam comes first, and when you see a family member in a difficult and potentially dangerous situation, of course you want to help. It might be best to confront your cousin first. After all, your opinion will mean something to her, and it’s important that she hears it. Urge her to talk to her mom, or to another adult who can give her sound advice.

If she’s not hearin’ ya and you’re still really worried? It won’t be the worst thing in the world to talk to your mom about it. Explain that you don’t want your cuz to know that you tattled, but that you’re worried and aren’t sure what to do. Your mom will understand and know what to do.

Hopefully the situation isn’t as dire as you’re imagining. But it’s always best to stay on the safe side, and that means clueing in an adult to what’s going on. It might be hard for your cousin to hear your fam’s concern, but in the end, she’ll understand that you’re just lookin’ out for her. Good luck!
