A Day in the Life of a GL Intern: I'm a Subscriber

Hey Girls! My name is Freddi and I am a new intern at GL. It is only my first week here and I am already learning a lot and having tons of fun.
I am a senior in high school, and when it was time to pick an internship for my senior project, I immediately knew I wanted to work at Girls’ Life. I am a subscriber and big fan of the magazine. It is a combination of everything I love. From the writing, to the fashion and make-up, to the celebrity gossip, there could not be an opportunity more perfect for me.
Of course, before I started my internship here, I had a few doubts. When I think of the job of an intern, the first things that come to mind are filing papers and getting coffee for whoever asks. It was such a pleasant surprise when I found out that the definition of an intern at Girls’ Life is totally different.
Fashion Forward
My first day here I was already writing articles about a variety of topics ranging from summer fashion to what’s hot in entertainment. It’s great for me because I plan on majoring in either journalism or communications at college next year. Everyone that knows me knows that my favorite thing in the world is fashion, so to get to incorporate that in my writing and see all the clothing for the photoshoots is complete heaven for me.
I really loved when all the interns were asked their opinions on which cover we like best for the upcoming issue, and who we thought would be good ideas for upcoming cover girls. Interns aren’t usually asked their opinions, so I thought it was awesome that we might have a small impact on what it would look like.
Just Like Me
Another thing I get to do is mod and answer letters. I got to read some of the questions you girls sent in and give advice. I was able to see what different girls are going through, and also realized that many of those issues are the same ones I face.
This has been my first internship at a magazine, and being here has made me realize that this is exactly what I want to do when I’m older. It’s been such a fun and rewarding experience for me and I hope to work here again after my 3 week long project is over.
