But sometimes those ors can be a little more personal than what you read in the magazines or what you see on TV. When you start to hear rumors about you, it can be a pretty sticky situation. It’s tough to nix the without adding more drama to the situation. Don’t worry, we’ve got some tips on how to avoid that drama and squash that rumor. 

Don’t fight back with revenge

The best way to shrink the drama is to avoid trying to get revenge. Trying to spread rumors about the girl that started yours is only going to add more drama to the situation – definitely a bad idea. Not only will it add drama, but it will also make you look like a catty girl, which will just make trying to get rid of the rumor that much harder.

Tell the truth

The easiest way to eliminate the spread of a rumor is to set the story straight. No matter how outrageous the rumor may be, there will still be someone that believes it. The most important thing to do is to make sure that the people closest to you know the truth. As long as they’re there to back you up, no one else should matter.

Surround yourself with true friends

Not only is surrounding yourself with true friends the best way to avoid having a rumor started about you, but it is also the best way to get through the tough time once a rumor is actually started. Their support will show others that the rumor isn’t true, and they’ll be there to talk to when things start to get messy.

Be assertive

If you know which girl started the rumor, our best advice is to confront them. Maybe she feels like you did something wrong, or maybe she had a reason for what she did. Either way, approaching them is your best bet at getting an apology and getting her to fess up about lying. If things start to get heated though, try your best to leave it alone. Getting defensive is a sure sign to other people that the rumor is actually true.
