School

I get bullied at school!

One day on my Facebook status this guy wrote no one cares what you say. Then a couple of his friends agreed on my status. These are the same guys who bullied me in the seventh grade, calling me names and pushing me around. I deleted all of them from my friend list and deleted the comments too. And I realize this is why I hate school.

I don't want to go into 8th grade afraid of these guys. How do I stand up to them?

Hey there, girly! Sorry to hear about the tough sitch. It sounds like you were mucho mature about their online bullying and handled it well. But when it comes to a face-to-face encounter, here are a few tips.

Safety in Numbers

Bullying is most likely to occur when you’re in a vulnerable sitch. Don’t let yourself become a victim! Try to avoid walking the hallway or sitting in the cafeteria alone. If you travel in packs, you’ll find security in a buddy system. Bullies are way less likely to pick on you, and if they do, it’ll be a lot easier to fend ‘em off.

Maturity Matters

As much as you may want to yell or talk back to these bullies, don’t let yourself stoop down to their level. Be the mature one. When you’re with your pals, just ignore those guys. Bullies are usually trying to upset you, so if you don’t react, they’re likely to stop. If they keep at it, don’t be afraid to stand up for yourself (or your besties!). You don’t have to raise your voice or get angry, but stick up for each other and tell them to just lay off.

If It Continues…

If they don’t stop and things start to get out of hand, don’t be afraid to let a teacher, administrator, counselor or even a parent know. Sure, you don’t want to seem like a tattletale, but there is def a line between harmless bullying and harassment that should not be crossed.
