LIFE

Dear Carol

Got a bully? Carol knows how to deal.

Dear Carol,
My friends and I are bullied by a girl at school. She’s our age, but we can’t stop her from being a total brat. She goes around giving people “fashion checks,” and says stuff like, “Change those jeans. They’re looking pretty ratty.” I am so mad! I want to do something, but I don’t know what!
Totally Helpless

Dear Totally Helpless,
She’s looking for attention, and you and your friends are giving it to her. Next time she makes an obnoxious comment, shrug it off the way you’d shoo away a fly. Let her brattiness be her problem, not your problem. Girls like that eventually fall on their faces, or they realize making catty comments is a lame way to amuse themselves and grow out of it. Instead of telling her off, tell yourself it must stink to be so insecure that she has to put others down to build herself up. Thinking about it this way should make you feel better.
