How to deal when you're far from your fam this summer

Did you pack your bags and venture off to camp after the school year ended? Are you busy traveling out and about to new places this summer? You're probably beaming with excitement about your adventures, but that doesn’t mean you're not feeling sad while away from your family. If you're seriously missing your loved ones this summer, follow these tips to feel connected and loved!

Make an effort to call

Finding time to call your family every day is super important when you're far away. It’s easy to get caught up in all of the activities you are doing; however, setting aside time to dial your fam’s digits will remind your loved ones they're on your mind. Whether it’s a five-minute chitchat or an hour-long conversation, initiating a phone call will make the distance seem a little shorter.

Write a letter or send a postcard

There's something extra special about a handwritten letter. Write a short and sweet note about your day and a friendly reminder that you're thinking about your loved ones back home. And if you’re visiting a stunning spot you’ve never been to before, send a postcard with a photo and a description of what you did there. Mailing a letter might seem old-fashioned, but it’s a thoughtful act your family will treasure.

Schedule a video date

Get face to face with your fam through a video call. Apps like FaceTime and Skype make connecting with your fam easier and clearer. Choose a date, pick a time, open up the app, and click to start your call. Before you know it, you'll be chatting away with your family members like you're right in front of them!

Share pics of your adventures

Send your loved ones pictures of your summer memories to make them feel part of your experience. Include pictures of places you visit, food you eat, friends you’re with, or selfies just because.

Stay informed on each other’s lives

Catch up with your fam whenever you can. Ask your mom how her day was, tell your sister about the cute boy from camp you’re crushing on, or talk to your dad about your latest hiking excursion. Let your family members know what you’ve been doing and learn what they've been up to to make you all feel close, even when you're not together.
