5 reasons sweating isn't actually the worst

Everyone hates pit stains. No one likes to smell. And yet, sweat doesn't have to stink. Next time you’re thinking about skipping the gym, remember these amazing benefits of sweat.

1. Exercise makes us happy.

It's just science: working out releases endorphins, and those are the body's feel-good hormones. If you’re feeling down, try going for a jog and let the sweat do the rest. You can feel totally happy in just 20 minutes.

2. Sweat can clear your skin.

This one is complicated. Sweating opens up your pores and there's even been research that shows sweat itself contains an antibiotic. That said, staying in your sweaty clothes and not showering off once your workout is over can lead to breakouts. So sweat it out...and then clean up good.

3. Cardio can kick your cold to the curb.

Exercise reduces your chances of getting sick. And if you feel a cold coming on? Getting some fresh air and moderate exercise can help. Just don't push it too hard, OK?

4. Release that stress.

Working out can be a great way to ease tension. Next time you’re seriously frazzled, hit up a spinning or hot yoga class (both will have the sweat pouring). Let the magic of exercise calm you down.

5. You can sweat out the bad stuff.

In addition to cooling you down, perspiration is your body's way of eliminating pollutants from the environment. It's like a rinse cycle for your insides.
