The ultimate face care routine based on your skin type

There are so many skin products out there that it’s sometimes hard to figure out which ones are right for you. Knowing what type of skin you have—oily, dry, or a combo of the two—is essential for picking the perfect skin care products to get your face looking phenomenal!

Discover your skin type
First, go with your gut feeling. If you’ve noticed that your skin feels tight, dry or flaky, you most likely have dry skin that needs a little TLC. The same goes for oily skin. If it feels greasy, it probably is. If your skin feels oily on your forehead and nose (the T-zone area) but dry on your cheeks, then you probably have a combo of oily and dry skin, which is the most common type. Once you’ve discovered what type you are, avoid products that do not list that skin type on the label.

If you’re on the oily side…
Be sure to use gel-based cleansers, which will help stop your skin from producing more oil while getting rid of gross greasy residue and blackheads. Oily skin is the type that’s most likely to cause acne, but using a mask once or twice a week will prevent those breakouts from happening.

If you’re on the dry side…
An oil-free moisturizer will be your new bestie, making tight, dry skin feel (and look!) a whole lot better. Applying moisturizers and creams often, especially in the morning and before going to sleep, will give your skin the moisture that it needs. And don’t forget to drink water too— it also adds moisture!

If you’re a little bit of both…
Don’t freak! Even though you may feel both oily *and* dry, combination skin is the most common type and can easily be taken care of with some extra attention. Use moisturizers and creams around your eyes and on your cheeks, while being sure to clean and wash those oily spots, like the T-zone, frequently and thoroughly.

Sure, taking care of your skin may require a little extra effort before school and bed, but having great skin is definitely worth it—trust us!
