WE TRIED IT: Belly Dancing

belly.jpg

I’ll be the first to admit, I’m not the biggest fan of workout DVDs. Aside from my Dance! Workout with Barbie video I religiously did back when I was 7, nothing has really caught my eye…that is until now.

Belly Dance for Teens: Level One (Digital Glamour Television Inc.) is an awesome instructional video celebrating style, beauty and physical fitness. Led by world-renown dancer, Hannah Romanza, and a group of teens, I was able to learn about this beautiful, exotic art form while giving my entire body a workout!

OK, at first I wasn’t sure how this was going to pan out. I mean, belly dancing, as exercise? No way! But no sooner after I pressed the play button did I find myself turning about my room, swiveling my hips, and actually feeling the burn. Fun movements, real girls, and a form of dance I know nothing of? It’s the perfect package if you ask me.

Not a pro at belly dancing? You don’t have to be. Here’s the basic rundown on what goes down with this sizzlin’ workout.

Step 1: Select Fundamentals for Belly Dancing. From a shoulder shimmy to a flat-footed twist, the DVD begins with a crash course on how to do all of the basic moves.

Step 2: Breakdown of the Choreography. Hannah and the girls teach you the dance in slow-mo chunks.

Step 3: Final Revisions. The choreography is all pieced together to make a wonderful masterpiece. Not a fast learner? No biggie! Each little section is repeated three times before moving on to the next group.

Step 4: The Final Dance. All of the work pays off as you dance the entire routine to some catchy, hip-swiveling music.

So, round up your girls, and go on a belly-dance excursion of your own. I thoroughly enjoyed this DVD and am sure you will, too!
