10 foolproof ways to make yourself a morning person

Some mornings may seem nearly impossible to get out of bed when the alarm clock starts buzzing. You’re warm, comfy and the last thing you wanna do is pull back the covers and get ready for school. But let's be honest, you probably wouldn’t mind starting the day off with a little spring in your step — without having to chug a cup of joe, of course. So, how do you *really* become a morning person? It's not that hard! Just read through these surefire tips that'll have ya actually looking forward to sunrise for the first time ever.

1. Set your bedtime back

This may seem obvious, but the key here is to set it back by 15 minutes every night. Crawling into bed a little bit earlier day after day will train your brain and body slowly instead of shocking it with drastic changes. You can’t go from 11 p.m. to 8 p.m. in just one night.

2. Make time for snoozing

Getting out of bed at 7 a.m. is a lot harder when you went to bed just three hours earlier. This means prioritizing activities to make sure you get enough zzz’s every night. According to The National Sleep Foundation, teens need about 8-10 hours of sleep each night to function properly the next day.

3. Establish a nighttime routine

To get yourself ready to snooze every night, get a routine together that will help you chill out and realize it’s time for sleep. A cup of tea and a book for 30 minutes is a perfect example.

4. Beware of naps

Naps are great—don’t get us wrong, but if that cat nap turns into a full on slumber mid-day, it could really mess up your nighttime sleep schedule.

5. Plan ahead

Lay out your outfit the night before when your mind is still awake and sharp. Plan your breakfast, make your lunch, do anything that can make getting out of bed less dreadful.

6. Watch your weekend habits

Once Saturday and rolls around, all you probably wanna do is sleep until noon, but don’t do it! Try to stick to the same sleep schedule, or else you’ll pay for it big time on Monday morning.

7. Put your alarm clock on the other side of the room

Once you’ve got your sleep schedule down, physically getting out of bed can still be the hardest part. If the annoying buzz of your alarm is blaring across the room, you gotta bite the bullet and get up.

8. Get moving in the morning

Get your body in motion when you make it out of bed to wake your muscles and mind. It doesn’t have to be serious cardio—light stretching for 10 minutes is enough to make you feel super energized in the a.m.

9. Drink a big glass of water

Believe it or not, water really wakes you up (better than coffee!) Drinking a big glass of cold water first thing in the morning to feel a jolt of energy.

10. Let the light in

Open your blinds ASAP! The brightness will prob hurt your eyes at first, but natural light will really get your brain to adjust and wake up. Once you see the daylight, going back to bed will seem much less appealing.
