3 ways to ace your spring tryouts!

Hoping to make the lax team? Fingers crossed you’ll score a spot on the softball squad? Here are a few cinchy tips for getting your butt in gear this second.

Take it outdoors.
As soon as the snow melts, head to the fields. “This way you’ll be able to tailor your training to the sport on the surface or arena where you’ll be playing,” says personal trainer Wendy Stewart. That way, you’ll get a better sense of space on the turf and will feel totally at home by the time tryouts roll around.

Hit the weights.
Yep, now’s the time to get your bod in top form. “Strength training is a bonus in every sport,” she tells us. Check out our fave get-buff workouts and then get to it.

Train like an athlete.
No more procrastinating or breaking out the cleats a week before tryouts. Start doing sport-specific as soon as possible. “For example, if your spring sport is softball, then you want do a total-body strength routine 2-3 days per week  and then use the other days of the week to practice skills related to baseball such as sprinting, endurance, throwing, catching, batting, reflexes, and so on,” Wendy reminds us.
