Freeze! 5 Healthy and tasty ways to make ice cubes

Who said ice cube trays were only for making ice? Ever since we found out about these awesome ice cube recipes, we never looked at them the same way again. Best part? They're healthy and take minutes to make (minus freezing time)....pretty genius if you ask us. Just flip through the slides and get ready to whip up the next It summer treat.

    Raspberry flavored ice cubes

    What you’ll need:

    • Frozen or fresh rasberry chunks
    • Filtered water 

    Directions:

    1. Puree fresh or frozen rasberries into chunks.

    2. Mix in a small amount of filtered water. The consistency should be thick but pourable. 

    3. Fill ice cubes trays with the puree and place in the freezer until frozen.

    Fresh herbs in olive oil

    What you’ll need:

    • Fresh herbs of your choice (rosemary, fennel stalk, sage, and oregano)
    • Extra virgin olive oil, or melted unsalted butter
    • Plastic wrap

    Directions:

    1. Choose firm, fresh herbs, ideally from the store or your own garden.

    2. If you wish, you can chop them fine, or leave them in larger sprigs and leaves. 

    3. Pack the wells of ice cube trays about 2/3 full of herbs.

    4. You can mix up the herbs, too.

    5. Pour extra-virgin olive oil or melted, unsalted butter over the herbs.

    6. Cover lightly with plastic wrap and freeze overnight.

    7. Remove the frozen cubes and store in freezer containers or small bags.

    8. Don't forget to label each container or bag with the type of herb (and oil) inside!

    Coffee cubes

    What you’ll need:

    • Coffee

    Directions:

    1. Its so easy NEVER throw away your coffee! Instead just freeze it in ice cube trays.

    2. You can add them to your milk of choice for a quick latte.

    Fruity summer striped ice cubes 

     

    What you’ll need:

    • Mango juice or any juice of choice 
    • Coconut milk 

    Directions:

    1. Add layer of coconut milk to the bottom of each tray.

    2. Add layers of pre-made juice.

    Chocolate covered strawberries

    What you’ll need:

    • Strawberries
    • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips for about 11 strawberries
    • 1 Tbsp. shortening 

    Directions:

    1. Choose strawberries that will fit in your ice tray.

    2. Melt chocolate chips and shortening in the microwave. Stir until smooth.

    3. Fill each ice cube tray slot about 2/3 full with melted chocolate. Then place a strawberry in each slot.

    4. Chill tray in refrigerator for at least one hour until chocolate is set.

    5. Twist tray until the cubes pop out.
