Eat Right

Stellar ways to reward yourself (without reaching for a brownie)

When you’re so ready to give yourself a high five, it’s easy to reach for seconds of your mom’s famous brownies or dig in to an open bag of chips. But there are tons of ways to reward yourself for working that’s seriously well done without knocking your eating sched off track.

Give yourself some free time

Ten minutes of Harlem Shake vids for every chapter of Huck Finn? You’ve got yourself a deal!

Can you say recess?

You busted your butt in the gym yesterday, so today, exercise time is gonna double as recess. Hit the swings, put on your rollerblades or play some DDR.

Smart buys

Aced a pop quiz? Cleaned your room? Hop on iTunes and buy yourself a song you’ve been dying to put on repeat. Money well spent, no?

Unplug it

If you’ve been studying so hard your brain hurts, take 10 to close your books, get away from your study space and zone out. No reading, no music, no TV—just you, chilling out, breathing and daydreaming.

Let the good times roll

Call up a bud or a family member who’s great at making you laugh and while away a half hour when life’s got ya down (or brag when you’ve got something to celebrate). They’re enthusiasm for your hard work will make you feel like Wonder Woman.

And if you can’t stop thinking about the brownie…

Go ahead and eat it. But first, have a handful of strawberries, a small apple or a clementine. The fruit will count toward your five-a-day and the juicy goodness might just satiate your sugar craving.
