5 iced coffee hacks every girl needs to know

Here at GL, our drink of choice for summer is an iced coffee - creamy, caffeinated and delicious! However, since hitting up Starbucks everyday can make our wallets weep, we’ve come up with some great hacks to making our own iced coffee. Read on for our failproof tips.

Choose the Right Brew

Having a good base for your iced coffee is key to crafting the perf summer drink. For a strong, smooth flavor, make cold brewed coffee. Stir ⅓ cup of coarse ground coffee into 1 ½ cups of cold water and let sit overnight, then steep through a coffee filter in the morning. This concentrated base tastes great with milk! You can also pour a leftover pot of coffee into a travel mug or pitcher and let it chill in the fridge.

Whip Up a Batch of Coffee Cubes

The number one thing that’ll ruin iced coffee is melting ice. It waters down your drink until it’s bland and blah. To banish this problem, we recommend making a tray of coffee cubes. Just pour any leftover coffee into an ice cube tray and freeze overnight. Pop a few into your cup and sip away, knowing that as those cubes melt, your coffee will remain tasty and undiluted.

Got Milk?

Some gals like to drink their coffee sans sweetener and milk, but if you’re anything like us, you know iced coffee isn't complete without a touch of creaminess. For a rich, sweet flavor, add a couple tablespoons of condensed milk. If you want a more refreshing flavor, we’d recommend coconut milk. Vanilla almond or vanilla soy milk are wonderful dairy-free alternatives that’ll add some light sweetness to your coffee. Finally, if you like it classic, half-and-half with a sprinkling of sugar will never let you down.

Add a Splash of Something

Be your own barista by infusing your delish drink with fancy flavors. You can buy vanilla, hazelnut, or chocolate syrups at the grocery store for an easy way to sweeten and spice up your coffee. We also recommend experimenting with ingredients in your pantry. Cinnamon, nutmeg and pumpkin pie spice will add a nice touch of warmth and nutty flavor to your coffee.

Take Your Coffee To Go

A mason jar with a lid and straw will ensure your coffee is spill-proof - plus, it looks trendy. A tumbler cup is also a great option since it’s eco-friendly and can be washed and reused day after day. This adorable insulated cup from ban.do will keep your coffee cool for hours.
