Why don't guys like talking on the phone?

Why do guys hate to talk on the phone?

DAVE: Because we have e-mail to answer, silly. Actually, it is not the phone that scares us-it's this whole crazy system that you females have somehow finagled. We have to call you, we have to ask you out, we have to plan... and then we have to pay! How did this come about? Did I miss a vote?

Regardless of our cool act, most of us guys are shy and shaking in their Skechers around girls. Think about it-we sit there with the cordless in one hand and our scribbled crib notes in the other. After dialing all but the last digit of a girl's phone number exactly 22 times, the phone rings.

The girl can take the call or not. She knows she's in control because, well, we did call her. And therefore, she can shoot down every one of our well-thought-out topics like an Imperial Navy TIE fighter. The only events with greater pressure involves a No. 2 pencil.

BILL: As usual, Dave speaks for all men. I would like to add, though, the dreaded end-of-phone-call-sign-of-affection problem (i.e., "I like/love you, too") which is fully expected by the girl at the other end of the line but results in intense social pressure, scowls and various sound effects if a fellow guy hears it. The typical guy just says, "Me, too," and turns red.
