Forget boyfriends! How can I get guy friends?

Sometimes, I wonder why I don't have friends that are boys. Not a boyfriend, just friends that are boys. I just want a good guy friend to go to for support that my girls sometimes can't give me. I've always day dreamed about having a really good guy friend, and when I grow up we fall in love and get married. How do you make friends that are guys?

Dear Guy Friends,

Whoa, rather than getting you married off to your best guy friend, let’s consider your immediate question. Ralph Waldo Emerson wrote, “The only way to have a friend is to be one.” Guys are people too, and they don’t just offer support, but like you, they need support. Guys appreciate it when girls express interest in how they are. Ask, “How’d the game go?” or “Is your grandpa getting better?” or “Did you get the interview?” Then be a good listener. For instance, if you say, “How was your weekend?” and he says, “Coulda been better,” follow up with a sympathetic “What do you mean?” rather than rushing to tell him that you went to Six Flags with six cousins.
