You Wrote It

An original poem: "The Sunrise" by an anonymous GL reader

Hello, lovelies! Take a peek at this original poem written by an anonymous reader about the power of friendship. Tell us what you think in the comments.

It was raining,
I looked around and the drops of water weren’t falling on anyone else.
It was cold,
I looked for warmth in the wrong embraces.

There will never be exact words for how I felt, since at moments it was as if I felt nothing.
When I look ahead it feels like nothing has changed.
Just another day ahead, another hour, another minute, another second;
Another path that leads me to the unknown
It’s terrifying, but I know it’s a part of life.
But when I look behind me, I realized how steep the ground was behind me.

It isn’t about how long it took me to get here,
It isn’t about the others that are already standing at the top.
It’s about those who were willing to stop and hold a light up so I could climb this mountain at night.
It’s about the time I said I would slip and fall on those rocks, and I did,
Yet I stood up and tried again since I knew there was no other route to avoid it,
At that moment all I had in mind was to reach the top to see the sunrise from the best view.

It is hard for me to say; but, I could’ve drowned from the rain of my own cloud.
I could’ve walked away like others who find this all pointless work or too much time;
But I didn’t, you didn’t let me.
You knew that I’m meant to see the sunrise from the highest view;
There is no other way to say this, but…
Thank you.
